Western Province Polemarch Announces Departure

(Los Angeles, CA – September 15, 2009) - Brother Curtis R. Silvers, Jr. announces that he will step down from the Office of Western Province Polemarch at the beginning of the new fraternal fiscal year effective October 1, 2009.

Brother Silvers is the second longest-serving Western Province Polemarch. Only the 18th Grand Polemarch and Laurel Wreath Laureate, Mayor Tom Bradley, who served in that position for 10 years stands ahead of him. Brother Silvers was appointed in 2001 by the 29th Grand Polemarch Howard L. Tutman, Jr. and then reappointed by the 30th Grand Polemarch Samuel C. Hamilton and Grand Polemarch Dwayne M. Murray, Esq.. He served as the Vice Chairman and Secretary of The Council of Province Polemarchs.

During Brother Silvers’ tenure as Province Polemarch, he led The Western Province to financial prosperity. He also increased Province Council attendance records, membership intake figures and a more focused approach to social action.
 
Brother Silvers is the recipient of several fraternal awards. In 2009, he received a Creating Inspiration Award from the 31st Grand Polemarch Dwayne M. Murray, Esq.. He is also the two time recipient of The Randall C. Bacon Alumni Achievement Award, The James L. Bradford Achievement Award and several Grand Polemarch Appreciation Awards. Brother Silvers is also a member of The Kappa Foundation’s Million Dollar Club.

“My tenure as Western Province Polemarch has been magical and rewarding. The support that I was given by the membership throughout the years has been very special and greatly appreciated”, Silvers said.

“Brother Silvers has done an outstanding job of leading our efforts out west and will be leaving a legacy of achievement and inspiration for all those to follow”, remarked Grand Polemarch Murray.

Brother Silvers leaves the Office of Province Polemarch to embark on a new fraternal position as National Director of Program Funding to coordinate the fraternity’s expansive efforts to increase The Fraternity’s funding efforts of its national programs and initiatives effective immediately.

Life Member Silvers is a 1982 initiate of The University of Virginia Chapter, the Eta Sigma of Kappa Alpha Psi. He resides in Pasadena, CA with his family.
