spring-2019 Pre-province council edition

province polemarch's message

Greetings Brothers of the Great Western Province,

Welcome to the Spring 2019 Pre-Province Council edition of the Pacific Reporter.

We eagerly look forward to welcoming you to the 72nd Western Province in San Diego, CA. The Brothers of the Delta Epsilon and San Diego (CA) Alumni Chapters, along with the San Diego Silhouettes, have been hard at work preparing for a Province Council you will not want to miss.

With its mild climate and tremendous entertainment options, San Diego has something to offer every taste and budget. The host hotel, Double Tree by Hilton - Mission Valley is a fantastic hotel with a trolley stop right in front of the hotel. You will be only steps away from all San Diego has to offer.

With the 84th Grand Chapter Meeting right around the corner, we have a full agenda planned for the 72nd Western Province Council. I am really excited about the first ever Undergraduate Forum that will take place on Friday afternoon. The purpose of The Undergraduate Forum is to provide our Undergraduate Brothers with tools to maximize their collegiate experience. They will be provided with information and skills needed to successfully receive internships, improve interviewing skills, attend study abroad programs, obtain full time employment, and attend graduate school.

We've been fortunate to once again partner with AHF (AIDS Healthcare Foundation) and Union Bank for the 72nd Western Province Council. Their support is most appreciated, and we value our partnership.

Please support our partners. We also want to thank MRP for their support in providing resource material for the Senior Kappa Lounge.

All roads lead to Philadelphia. Plans are underway to ensure your experience at the 84th Grand Chapter Meeting will be long remembered. Make plans to join us in the "City of Brotherly Love". The 84th Grand Chapter Meeting will convene July 20 - August 4, 2019 in Philadelphia, PA.

We eagerly look forward to 2021 when the Gamma Iota, Phoenix (AZ) Alumni Chapters, and the Western Province will host the 85th Grand Chapter Meeting. We look forward to welcoming our Brothers to the West. Additional information is forthcoming.

Finally, Kudos to Brother Jeffery Brown for an outstanding job in reviving the dormant Pacific Reporter.

Keep Achievement in the forefront Nupes.

Yours in the Bond,

“Rebirth, Reclaim, Recommit by Leaving No Brother Behind”

Province Senior Vice Polemarch

Tim Woods

A panelist for a discussion "Being Blue from a Black Perspective" at the Beus Center for Law and Society on ASU's Downtown Phoenix campus. Dispelling myths such as the often-repeated statement that there are more black men in the criminal justice system than college.

Brother Cecil Patterson said he dealt with the “fishbowl syndrome” as the first black judge appointed to the Maricopa County Superior Court, the first black lawyer in the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and the state’s first black appeals court judge. “I had five major jobs in 32 years of practice, and every job I was the first and only African-American in the job. And that lasted a long time.”

The men of Kappa Alpha Psi partnered with we Heart Matters Foster Family Agency who currently have 100 foster children ages 0-20 who were displaced during the holiday season and collected over 200 toys. According to the Guide Right coordinator, "It's an amazing opportunity, we are big into helping kids," "We are always willing to give back and do whatever we can do for the community. To be a part of something like this, it's wonderful. “The holidays are a special time of year, and we want to help spread the joy of the season to girls and boys in our community,” said Chapter Polemarch. “We thank the community and Zabber Thai Fusion for their generous contributions in helping us bring smiles to children in the community and surrounding areas.”
The Carlsbad Laguna Temecula (CA) Alumni Chapter ff Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity was honored on January 5th at their Founders Day Event as a Community Champion for their Guide Right efforts in supporting foster youth in the local and surrounding community. September 16, 2018 - United College Action Network

Each year, Sacramento Alumni attends/supports the U-CAN (United College Action Network) by hosting an informational table while also bringing our Kappa Leaguers to participate and apply to the multitude of colleges/universities in attendance. The college fair focuses on being a catalyst for students to attend Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Entrance administrators are onsite and available for the students. We had one of our Kappa Leaguer’s gain acceptance into Grambling at this particular forum. We were also blessed by having our Iota Sigma undergraduate chapter brothers in attendance. Their presence was essential as it opened more dialogue with the high school students.

Sacramento Alumni Sip & Smoke Fundraiser - December 8, 2018

Led by the event chairman, Lynn Greer, the brothers of Sacramento Alumni hosted a Smoke & Sip event for brothers to enjoy. Brother Greer gathered numerous invitees to the Briar Patch to enjoy good food, a good smoke and various libations. All done in the name of charity. The net proceeds of $1650 were donated to the American Cancer Society.

December 14, 2018 - Sacramento Alumni Christmas Celebration, Fellowship, and Reclamation

The Sacramento Alumni chapter hosted a Christmas celebration for area brothers to attend in efforts to fellowship, reclamation and eventual return to Kappa. Several new brothers and a couple of out of town brothers attended the get together. We enjoyed great company and experienced wonderful discussions regarding the bond. The brothers had an exceptional time.

Sacramento Alumni Martin Luther King Celebration - March for a Dream - January 21, 2019

In efforts to support the local Martin Luther King celebration, the Sacramento Alumni chapter participated in the January 21st, March for a Dream. As with all MLK marches, we honored Martin Luther King Jr. with the additional intention of inviting someone from another race, religion or cultural background to participate in the walk.
