Summer 2019 Pre-Conclave Edition
Province Polemarch's Message
Greetings Brothers of the Great Western Province,
Welcome to the Summer 2019 Pre-Conclave Edition of the Pacific Reporter.
The 72nd Western Province Council was a tremendous success. I’ve received nothing but positive feedback regarding the 72nd Western Province Council. We conducted the business of Kappa in an exemplary manner. The First Annual Undergraduate Summit was well attended, and that Good Ole Kappa Spirit was in full effect during the entire Council. Hats off to the Delta Epsilon and San Diego (CA) Alumni Chapters on an excellent job, and for raising the bar for future Province Councils.
Speaking of raising the bar. The first ever Southern California Kappa League Conference exceeded all expectations. Over 70 Kappa Leaguers attended the Conference over the Father Day’s weekend on the campus of California State University, Northridge. Program participants participated in a number of informative workshops including sessions on mental health, HIV education, computer coding, an undergraduate panel discussion, and a Shark Tank competition, to name a few.
Please join me in congratulating Western Province Guide Right Chairman, Shannon Faulk, the San Fernando, Santa Clarita (CA) Alumni Chapter under the leadership of Polemarch Adam Jackson, Kappa League Chairman, Anthony Lee, all Kappa League Committee Chairmen, Kappa League Committee Members, Kappa League attendees, and all program participants. It was an outstanding conference and the conference received coverage by local media.
The 84th Grand Chapter Meeting will convene in a few short days. With over 3,000 brothers presently registered to attend, the 84th Grand Chapter Meeting is on track to have the second highest number of brothers registered for a Grand Chapter Meeting, second only to the Centennial Celebration in 2011. At the 72nd Western Province Council I endorsed Senior Grand Vice Polemarch Reuben Shelton, and his entire team. I remain committed to that endorsement, and ask you to support Brother Shelton and his entire team, as well.

Palo Alto Alumni Chapter
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Established April 15, 1978
On April 13, 2019, the Palo Alto Alumni Chapter celebrated it 41st year of service and support to our vast community. The “Small but Mighty” Chapter tried something new this year. Our Charter Day Chairman, Michael “Wilt” Baldwin decided to change from an evening format to a Brunch format. This decision was a hit!! Our Good Brother, Brother Baldwin sold 101 tickets to event, thus the new nickname “Wilt”.
The event was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Milpitas, CA and was attended by approximately 200 supporters. Our Chapter is truly thankful for this support.
We felt very strongly as a Chapter that these 2 areas are significant to our communities, historically, presently, and to our future: Education and Social Justice and with that realization, we decided to recognize the following community servants:
Traci Williams – Director of Adult Education at East Side Union High School District. She was the Principal at Piedmont High School in San Jose where she orchestrated an amazing turnaround in the school’s academic performance. Over the past 4 years, the Palo Alto Alumni Chapter has awarded 4 scholarships to students graduating from Piedmont HS. Ms. Williams is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Reverend Jethro Moore - Reverend Moore currently serves as President of the San Jose/Silicon Valley National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Reverend Moore is the past Co-Chair and founder of the Black Leadership Kitchen Cabinet. Through the collaboration of persons of African descent and allies, the Black Kitchen Cabinet promotes and establishes initiatives, programs, policies, and legislative reforms that improve the public safety, social well-being, educational outcomes, and economic prosperity of persons of African descent residing in the Santa Clara Valley. Reverend Moore is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
The Palo Alto Alumni Chapter also recognized our 50-year members. Our Chapter is very lucky to have the wisdom and experience of 5, 50 year members of the Bond. Our members are Brothers: Armour Crawford, Walter Washington, Clement Miles, Isaac Guinn, and Charles Richburg. Brothers Crawford and Washington were not available for this event. In recognition, we presented the Kappa Alpha Psi 50-year Blazers.
To close the program, we held our Prize Raffle and 50/50 Raffle. There was a whole lot of winning going on during this time. All in all, is was a great day for the Palo Alto Alumni Chapter and a great day for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Again, thank you to all those that supported us on this day, and for those that did or couldn’t make it…. Ask somebody and lookout for us in 2020!!
70th Mayor’s Memorial Day Ceremony, May 27, 2019
On Monday, May 27, 2019, the Brothers of the Honolulu (HI) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. proudly laid a wreath to honor and remember the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Coastguardsmen who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this great nation.
The wreath laying presentation was part of the 70th Mayor’s Memorial Day Ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii
Since 1949, the City and County of Honolulu along with numerous veteran, community, and educational organizations helped facilitate this time-honored ceremony.
