77th Western Province Council Blood Drive
Join the Western Province in the fight against sickle cell, and have a chance to earn up to $2,000 for your local undergraduate chapter.
To participate:
Register your team's members here no later than Friday, March 8, 2024.
On the day of the blood drive, have each team's members complete the RapidPass screening questionnaire here so that their information is already in the system when they arrive at the donation site. (Note: those who do not complete the form in advance will have to complete the questionnaire on site before they are permitted to participate.)
Attend the blood drive event, held Thursday, March 14th from 8:00am to 1:30pm (the morning immediately prior to the first business session of the 77th Western Province Council), where medical practitioners will help you donate blood. All participants will receive a gift card for donating.
The undergraduate/alumni chapter team with the greatest participation that day will be awarded the $2,000 first place prize; the second-place team will win $1,500, and the third -place team will win $750. Winners will be announced at Friday's public meeting.

What is the purpose of the blood drive?
To encourage African-Americans to donate blood in the fight to treat those with sickle cell disease
How are teams assigned?
Teams will be made up of geographically affiliated teams of undergraduate and alumni members (e.g. Berkeley Alumni + Gamma Alpha + Nu Sigma).
What are the rules of the competition?
a) Participants must register for the blood drive no later than Friday, March 8th, 2024 (link), choosing an appointment time as well as selecting either a traditional blood donation or a "Power Red" donation (see below for details).
b) Participants are strongly encouraged to complete the screening questionnaire prior to arrival (link).
c) Teams will compete to see who can donate the most blood on the day of the drive.
d) The three teams with the highest amount of donated blood will be awarded first, second, and third prizes of $2,000, $1,500, and $750 respectively; prizes will be awarded to the corresponding alumni chapter, which will in turn distribute the prize money to the eligible/participating undergraduate chapter(s).
When is the blood drive?
The blood drive will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 8:00am to 1:30pm.
What is a "Power Red" donation?
Power Red is a way to safely donate nearly twice as much blood in one sitting. For more information visit the Red Cross page here.
Is there a prerequisite requirement for "Power Red"?
Yes; those who elect to make a Power Red donation must be at least 150 pounds.
How long will donating blood or using the Power Red machine take?
Participants should plan to spend 10 to 15 minutes completing the RapidPass questionnaire, and approximately 15 minutes for the donation process.
